  • White star-shaped flowers with a pink central stripe
  • Rounded heads of around 6 cm
  • Flowers in May and June, lightly scented
  • About 30–40 cm tall
  • Several stems per bulb, grass-like foliage

'Graceful Beauty' is a small, refined ornamental onion for connoisseurs. The round heads of around 6 cm consist of white star-shaped flowers with a pink central stripe and dark anthers. At about 30–40 cm tall, it is ideal for the front of the border, pots and small bouquets.

About this variety

With 'Graceful Beauty' it pays to look closely. Each of the small star-shaped flowers is white with a delicate pink central stripe, and the anthers are lilac. Together they form heads of around 6 cm that look white with a pink shimmer from a distance. Several stems often grow from one bulb, and the foliage is narrow and grass-like.

At about 30–40 cm tall, this allium suits the very front row, the rock garden or pots on balcony and terrace. It links the tulip season with early summer. Good partners are thyme, lavender, low bellflowers and blue speedwell. In a bulb lasagne in a pot it forms the late-flowering layer.

Bees and other insects like to visit the flowers. Cut short, they last a long time in small vases, and the mild scent is pleasant. Voles and deer usually avoid the bulbs. The bulbs are hardy even at higher altitudes and can stay in the ground year after year in a sunny spot.

Planting

Plant the bulbs from September to November about 8–10 cm deep, tip upwards. Keep 10–15 cm between them and plant in groups. A sunny spot with free-draining soil is ideal.

Care

After flowering, leave the foliage until it turns yellow. Only then may you remove it. You can leave faded heads standing as dried decoration or cut them off. Watering is only needed during long dry spells in spring. If the groups become too dense, divide them in autumn after a few years.
