  • Bright orange trumpet flowers
  • Large bulbs with strong stalks
  • Flowers indoors from December to February
  • About 45–55 cm tall
  • 5 bulbs for a vivid group

'Orange Jumbo' brings a warm, glowing colour to the dark season. Strong stalks with orange trumpet flowers grow from large bulbs. With five bulbs you can create a vivid group on the windowsill or spread the pots across several rooms.

About this variety

Orange is rarer among amaryllis than red or white and so looks fresh and surprising. 'Orange Jumbo' shows this colour in large, open trumpet flowers that open one after another at the end of a strong stalk. The colour is reminiscent of tangerines and copper and goes well with warm candlelight on winter evenings.

At about 45–55 cm tall, the plants belong on a bright windowsill or a table. Five pots side by side form a glowing band. Combine the colour with copper, terracotta and dark green foliage, or create a deliberate contrast with blue hyacinths in small pots beside it.

Cut, the flowers also make a strong impression in the vase. Amaryllis have hardly any scent, and pollinators play no part indoors. If you pot the bulbs a few weeks apart, flowering extends into February. Well cared for, the bulbs produce new stalks the following winter too.

Planting

Pot the bulbs between October and January, each in its own pot only slightly larger than the bulb. A third to half of the bulb stays above the soil. After the first watering, give only a little water until the stalk grows. Placed somewhere bright and warm, they flower after six to ten weeks.

Care

Support tall stalks with a cane if needed. After flowering, keep caring for the foliage, watering and feeding regularly. From August stop watering so the bulbs rest and flower again in winter. All parts of the plant are toxic, so keep them away from children and pets.
