With 'Levante Rosso Double' you bring a rich red into the early garden. The double flowers stand on stems about 25–35 cm tall and appear in March and April. A variety with plenty of presence for border edges, pots and vases.

About this variety

Red is the colour in which anemones stand out most, and the double form intensifies the effect. 'Levante Rosso Double' bears dense, multi-layered flowers in a warm, rich red. Above the fine foliage they look like small rosettes and set clear accents.

Plant this variety in groups at the border edge, in the rock garden or at the woodland edge. It copes with sun and partial shade. Yellow daffodils, white tulips or silvery foliage show off the red well. In a large container combined with white violas, it creates a clear, fresh picture for balcony and terrace.

'Levante Rosso Double' is also eye-catching in the vase. A small bouquet of red anemones alone looks elegant; mixed with white and green it is more cheerful. Cut the stems early in the morning and stand them in cool water so they last longer. A few stems on the Easter table add a lovely splash of colour. If you plant several pots at intervals, you extend the time when flowers are ready for the vase.

Planting

Soak the tubers in water for 3–4 hours. Plant them from March to May, about 5 cm deep and 8–10 cm apart. A sunny to partially shaded spot with free-draining, moist soil suits it best. Wear gloves when planting.

Care

Water regularly, but never so much that water collects. A little flower fertiliser during flowering supports the plant. Cut off faded flowers. After flowering, let the foliage die back and protect the tubers in winter with a covering of leaves.
