  • Single flowers in white and purple
  • Early flowering in March and April
  • Compact, about 25–35 cm tall
  • For sun and partial shade
  • Striking cut flower

'Mistral Tigre Wine' combines white and purple in a lively, patterned flower. The single flowers appear in March and April on stems around 25–35 cm tall. An original variety for anyone looking for something special in spring.

About this variety

As the name 'Tigre' suggests, the colours in this variety are not simply distributed but form a lively interplay. White and purple meet in the single flowers and give each bloom its own face. Hardly two look exactly alike.

At about 25–35 cm tall, 'Mistral Tigre Wine' suits border edges, rock gardens and pots. It tolerates sun and partial shade. To show off the markings, choose calm partners such as white daffodils, plain purple tulips or the green foliage of ferns and hostas.

In the vase this variety draws the eye. Just three or four stems in a simple glass are enough. Cut the flowers as soon as the buds show colour and change the water regularly; they will then stay fresh for several days. On a plain table or a windowsill the play of colour is shown off particularly well. If you plant several pots in succession, you can enjoy the flowers for longer.

Planting

Soak the tubers in water for 3–4 hours. Plant them in spring, from March to May, about 5 cm deep with a spacing of 8–10 cm. Choose a sunny to partially shaded spot with free-draining soil.

Care

Water evenly but sparingly. A little flower fertiliser at flowering time supports the plant. Remove faded flowers. After flowering, let the foliage die back and cover the spot with leaves or brushwood in winter.
