  • Double Asiatic lily, every flower different
  • Play of green, white and orange with speckles
  • Pollen-free, no stains on clothes or table
  • Flowers in June and July
  • About 90–110 cm tall, pollinator-friendly

'Must See' is a double Asiatic lily in which no two flowers look alike. The narrow petals alternate between green, white and orange and are finely speckled. The flowers are pollen-free, so they leave no stains. An eye-catcher for bed, border and vase.

About this variety

'Must See' is a lily for anyone who likes surprises. The flowers are single, semi-double or fully double, and even on one plant they look different. The narrow, pointed petals show a mix of soft green, cream and orange, dotted with small dark speckles. The colours can change as the flowers age. The flowers face upwards and are around 11 cm across.

At about 90–110 cm tall, 'Must See' fits the middle of a bed or a border, where it acts as a focal point. Calm partners let its colours stand out best: grasses, lady's mantle or the dark foliage of heuchera. It also does well at the woodland edge or in a natural garden. It is only partly suited to pots. Sun or light partial shade is ideal.

Because the flowers produce no pollen, 'Must See' is a pleasant cut flower with no stains on tablecloths or clothes. Cut the stems when the first bud shows colour. In the garden, pollinators visit the flowers. It is hardy, even at higher altitudes, and puts on a new display of colour every year.

Planting

Plant the bulbs in autumn, from September to November, or in spring, from February to May. Set them 15–20 cm deep, around three times the height of the bulb, and 25–30 cm apart. Free-draining, loose soil in sun or partial shade is ideal. Keep the base cool with low planting.

Care

Water in dry spells and avoid waterlogging. The double flowers are heavy, so a cane gives support. Check leaves and buds for lily beetle. Leave the foliage after flowering until it turns yellow. Lilies are toxic to cats.
