  • Pink flowers with a darker eye
  • Greenish flower centre
  • Flowers in July
  • Compact, about 50–70 cm tall
  • Tough, long-lived and easy to care for

'Siloam Ribbon Candy' is a compact daylily with pink flowers that have a darker eye and a green centre. In high summer it opens new flowers day after day. This tough perennial suits sunny borders, woodland edges and naturalistic planting.

About this variety

The Siloam daylilies are known for their compact size and finely marked flowers. 'Ribbon Candy' shows a fresh pink with a darker ring around the green centre. Each flower lasts only a day, but many buds wait on every stem, so the plant flowers for weeks.

At about 50–70 cm tall, it suits the front and middle of a bed, borders and the woodland edge. It thrives in sun and partial shade, on almost all soils as long as they stay moist. Lovely companions are lady's mantle, catmint, cranesbill and ornamental grasses. It also covers the ground well on slopes.

The narrow, arching foliage stays fresh all summer. It is only of limited use as a cut flower, as the individual flowers are short-lived. The perennial is very hardy, even at higher altitudes, and lives for decades. Over the years the clump becomes denser and produces more flower stems. The result is a reliable splash of colour that needs hardly any work and copes well with heat.

Planting

Plant in spring from March to May or in autumn in September and October. Set the crown 2–3 cm deep and make the planting hole twice the size of the rootstock. Leave 40–50 cm between plants and choose a sunny spot. Water in well.

Care

Water in dry weeks, especially while the plant is flowering. Compost in spring supports growth. Remove withered flowers and cut off spent stems. Divide every few years when the clumps become too dense.
