'Double Fashion' is a double daffodil in warm yellow and orange. The full flowers look lush and bring strong colour to beds and pots in March and April. As a cut flower it is a lovely addition to spring bouquets. It is robust and returns every year.

About this variety

Double daffodils such as 'Double Fashion' have many layers of petals instead of a simple corona. Yellow and orange segments mingle in the flower, giving it a warm, lively look. The flowers are round and full and make an impact even in small groups.

At around 45–55 cm tall, it suits the middle of beds and borders and large containers. The warm colours harmonise with purple and blue spring flowers such as grape hyacinths, hyacinths or purple tulips. Planted among perennials, its foliage disappears unobtrusively after flowering. For greater impact, plant it in groups of ten to twenty bulbs. In a large container you can underplant it with grape hyacinths, which flower at the same time and complement the warm yellow with blue.

As a cut flower it brings colour indoors and lasts well in the vase. The bulbs return every year and slowly form larger clumps. Voles and deer usually leave daffodils alone. Double flowers are hardly accessible to bees. If you want to support pollinators, add crocuses or grape hyacinths.

Planting

Plant the bulbs from September to November, 10–15 cm deep and 10–15 cm apart, tip upwards. A sunny to partially shaded position with free-draining soil is ideal. Avoid waterlogging.

Care

Leave the foliage until it turns yellow so that the bulb can gather new strength. Pinch off faded flowers. In rain the full flowers sometimes bend, so a sheltered spot helps. Divide dense clumps after a few years. Freshly cut daffodils release a slime into the water that harms other flowers: stand them on their own for a few hours before mixing them.
