'The Bride' is a multi-headed double daffodil, closely related to 'Bridal Crown'. Several white flowers open on each stem, with yellow and orange segments glowing in the centre. It has a pleasant scent and is made for large containers and spring bouquets.

About this variety

The name suits its appearance: 'The Bride' looks festive and bright. Each stem carries several double flowers with white petals, mixed with small segments in yellow and orange. The variety is closely related to the well-known 'Bridal Crown' but has larger flowers. It flowers from mid-March and has a pleasantly sweet scent.

At about 35–45 cm tall, it is a good choice for large containers and boxes on balconies and terraces, where you can enjoy the scent up close. In beds, plant it in small groups in a sheltered spot. White hyacinths, blue grape hyacinths and pale yellow tulips go well with it. It is also at home in a cottage garden.

'The Bride' is especially beautiful in the vase, for example in spring bouquets with cherry or magnolia branches. Voles and deer usually leave daffodils alone. In a suitable spot, it returns year after year.

Planting

Plant the bulbs from September to December, tip upwards, 10–15 cm deep and 10–15 cm apart. Choose a sunny to partly shaded, sheltered spot with well-drained soil. In large containers, plant the bulbs close together. A drainage layer of gravel prevents waterlogging.

Care

Snip off faded flowers so the plant does not put energy into seed. Leave the foliage until it yellows, as it prepares next year's flowers. You can divide dense clumps after a few years. Daffodils are poisonous and their sap harms other cut flowers, so stand freshly cut stems in water on their own for a few hours first.
