  • Mix of small-flowered gladioli in pink and red
  • Contrasting markings on the flowers
  • Early flowering in June and July
  • Dainty habit with short stems
  • For borders, pots and small bouquets

The 'Summer Love' mix brings together small-flowered gladioli in pink and red. The flowers carry contrasting markings and bloom early, in June and July. A romantic selection for anyone who likes dainty gladioli in the border, in pots and in small bouquets.

About this variety

Small-flowered gladioli have a charm all of their own. They are more finely built than the large-flowered gladioli and look more natural in the garden. The 'Summer Love' mix brings together shades of pink and red, often with pale, contrasting markings on the petals. The result is a lively picture in which every spike looks a little different.

Because the mix starts flowering as early as June, it fills the gap between early summer perennials and the later gladioli. Plant the tubers in loose groups among hardy geraniums, lady's mantle or white marguerites. It also fits in well beside roses and in cottage gardens. It loves a sunny spot and can, to a degree, also be grown in pots.

The dainty spikes are ideal for small bouquets. They fit narrow vases and jugs and can be combined with cornflowers, sweet peas or grasses. Cut the stems when the first flower opens. The remaining buds will open in the vase.

Planting

Plant the tubers outdoors from mid-April to June, about 10–12 cm deep and 10–15 cm apart. For early flowers, plant the first tubers in mid-April and more two to three weeks later. Choose a sunny spot with moist, loamy or sandy soil without waterlogging.

Care

Keep the soil evenly slightly moist and feed once as growth starts. Cut off faded spikes and leave the foliage until it yellows. The tubers are not hardy: lift them in autumn and store them dry and frost-free.
