  • Pure white, dense flower spikes
  • Light scent
  • Flowers in March and April
  • Compact, about 10–20 cm tall
  • For border edges, lawns and beneath trees

'Casablanca' is a compact, pure white grape hyacinth. In March and April its dense spikes set bright accents among the fresh spring green. The flowers are lightly scented. With 100 bulbs you can create whole areas in white.

About this variety

Pure white without any other tint: that is 'Casablanca'. The small bells sit densely on short stems and form compact spikes. Above the narrow, grass-like foliage they look bright and clear. The flowers give off a light, fresh scent.

At about 10–20 cm tall, this variety suits border edges, rock gardens and the ground beneath trees. Next to cobalt-blue grape hyacinths it creates a lively contrast. It also combines well with pink tulips, yellow daffodils or purple hyacinths. In pots and bowls it brings brightness to balcony and terrace. The white is particularly lovely at dusk, when other colours are already fading.

The flowers are visited by bees in spring. The stems can be cut for small table posies. 'Casablanca' multiplies over the years and naturalises in sunny to partially shaded spots. Voles and deer generally leave grape hyacinths alone. With 100 bulbs you can create generous white ribbons or islands in the lawn.

Planting

Plant the small bulbs from September to November, or even in December, 5–8 cm deep and 5–8 cm apart. The tip points upwards. Always plant several bulbs together, as the full effect only comes in dense groups. Free-draining soil in sun or partial shade is ideal.

Care

Only cut back the foliage once it has yellowed. In pots, water moderately while the plants are sprouting and flowering. Do not mow meadows and lawns until the leaves have died back. After a few years you can divide groups that have become dense.
