  • 25 large-flowered daffodil bulbs
  • Many varieties and colour combinations
  • Flowers in April
  • Height about 35–45 cm
  • Naturalise well, lovely cut flowers

This mix brings together large-flowered daffodils in many varieties and colour combinations. They flower in April in yellow, white and orange and naturalise well. With 25 bulbs you create a varied group that returns every year and slowly spreads. An easy choice for colourful spring drifts.

About this variety

Large-cupped daffodils are the most versatile of all daffodils. They have a clearly defined cup that is shorter than a trumpet, and large, highly visible flowers. This mix brings together different varieties: pure yellow, white with a yellow or orange cup, and other combinations. The result is a lively, colourful picture.

At around 35–45 cm tall, they suit beds, borders, meadows and the woodland edge. Plant them in loose groups among perennials whose foliage later hides the yellowing leaves. Blue squills, grape hyacinths or forget-me-nots create a lovely contrast. The mix also looks cheerful in large containers. If you are planning a large area, combine several packs and spread the bulbs loosely in sweeping drifts.

Daffodils naturalise well and form ever denser stands over the years. Voles and deer usually avoid them. For the vase, cut the stems when the buds show colour, so the flowers last longest. Daffodils are not an important food source for bees, so you may like to add crocuses or grape hyacinths.

Planting

Plant the bulbs from September to November, 10–15 cm deep and 10–15 cm apart, with the tip pointing upwards. Mix the bulbs well before planting so that the colours are spread out. A sunny to partially shaded spot with free-draining soil is ideal.

Care

Leave the foliage after flowering until it turns yellow. Pinch off large faded flowers. In a meadow, only mow once the leaves have died back. Divide dense clumps after a few years. Once cut, daffodils release a slime into the water that harms other flowers: stand them on their own for a few hours before mixing them.
