  • Mix of lily-flowered tulips in many colours
  • Slender flowers with pointed, curved petals
  • Flowers from April to May
  • 45–55 cm tall, for beds and pots
  • Elegant cut flower, also for partial shade

Lily-flowered tulips are among the most elegant tulips of all. Their slender flowers have pointed petals that curve outwards, dancing on fine stems in the wind. This colourful mix brings different colours together and suits any garden.

About this variety

The flowers of lily-flowered tulips are narrow and waisted. Their pointed petals curve outwards at the tips, so the flower resembles a lily or a goblet. This mix contains various colours that together create a lively, light picture.

At 45–55 cm tall, the tulips suit the middle of beds and borders, cottage gardens and spaces between perennials. Their fine shape looks best in loose groups you can see through. Forget-me-nots, wallflowers or violas fit underneath, with alliums alongside to carry on the flowering. They also look good in pots and bulb lasagnes on the balcony, in sun as well as partial shade.

Lily-flowered tulips are especially elegant as cut flowers; just a few stems make a loose bunch. They hold little appeal for bees. Like most garden tulips, they flower most strongly in their first year; replant every year and the mix stays colourful and full. Cut the stems at bud stage and stand them in cool water so they last particularly long.

Planting

Plant the bulbs from October to December, preferably in October or November when the soil has cooled. Set them 10–15 cm deep, tip upwards, 10–12 cm apart. Mix the bulbs well and plant in groups of 10 or more. A sunny to partially shaded spot with free-draining soil is ideal; improve heavy soil with sand or grit. In pots the bulbs can stand more densely.

Care

Water in spring when it is dry. Cut off faded flowers and leave the foliage until it turns yellow. The bulbs can stay in the ground; for a full display, replant every year or store them dry after the foliage dies back. If voles are about, use a planting basket. Protect pots from constant wet in winter.
