  • Flowers in cream and yellow with a pink inside
  • Cross between Oriental lily and trumpet lily
  • Firm stems that stay upright
  • Flowers in July and August
  • About 120–140 cm tall, good cut flower

'Passion Moon' is an OT lily with large, trumpet-like flowers in cream and yellow, flushed soft to strong pink inside. Despite their height, the firm stems stay upright. In July and August it gives the garden a romantic touch.

About this variety

'Passion Moon' looks soft and warm at the same time. The large flowers are cream to pale yellow and coloured pink inside, as if evening light were resting on them. They are trumpet-shaped and tilt slightly downwards. As an OT hybrid, it combines an abundance of flowers with strong growth.

At about 120 to 140 cm tall, it belongs in the middle or towards the back of the border. The firm stems hold the flowers well, even in rain. Pink astilbes, cream yarrow or purple foliage such as that of the smoke bush make lovely neighbours. It feels at home at the woodland edge, where the roots stay cool. It is only partly suited to containers.

As a cut flower, 'Passion Moon' brings soft colours to the vase and goes well with roses or grasses. Cut the stems when the lowest bud shows colour and remove the anthers. In the garden the bulb grows stronger over the years and produces more flowers if you leave enough foliage on the plant.

Planting

Plant the bulbs in autumn (September to November) or in spring (February to May). The bulb goes about three times as deep into the soil as it is tall, so 15–20 cm, with 25–30 cm spacing. Sun or partial shade is suitable, ideally 'head in the sun, feet in the shade'. Loamy to sandy, moist and free-draining soil is ideal.

Care

Water evenly, especially in dry summer weeks, without waterlogging. A dose of organic fertiliser in spring is enough. Watch out for lily beetle and remove beetles and larvae. Lilies are highly toxic to cats, including the pollen and vase water. The bulbs overwinter in the ground, even at higher altitudes.
