  • White flowers with delicate pink
  • Flowers indoors from December to February
  • About 45–55 cm tall
  • From the Galaxy group, with large flowers
  • Long-lasting as a cut flower

'Cherry Blossom' brings spring into the house in winter. Its large, single flowers are white with a delicate pink blush, like cherry blossom in April. From December to February it decorates windowsill and table, and it also lasts a long time in the vase when cut.

About this variety

The name already gives away the picture: the flowers of 'Cherry Blossom' are reminiscent of cherry trees in bloom. A delicate pink blush lies on a white ground and can become stronger towards the edges. The variety belongs to the Galaxy group, whose flowers are large and open. Several flowers sit on a strong stem and open one after another.

As a houseplant, the amaryllis is ideal for a bright windowsill, the dining table or the hallway. At about 45–55 cm tall, it makes an impression even on its own. The delicate colour shows best in a simple white pot or a bowl with moss. Together with white Christmas roses or eucalyptus sprigs, it creates a bright winter decoration.

A cut flower stem lasts up to two weeks in the vase if you cut it as soon as the first bud opens. You will therefore enjoy it for a long time, even in cool rooms. With the right care, the bulb flowers again the next winter and becomes a long-term companion through the dark season.

Planting

Pot the bulb between October and January in a pot only slightly larger than the bulb itself. Set it so that a third to half of the bulb shows above the soil. Water once and place the pot in a bright, warm spot at 20–22 °C. Only once the flower stalk is visibly growing, water regularly but sparingly. After about six to eight weeks the first flowers open.

Care

After flowering, remove the stalk and keep caring for the plant as a foliage plant. Water and feed regularly until the end of July so the bulb can build up strength for the next flowering. The rest period starts in August: no more water, and the leaves may die back. After around eight weeks, repot the bulb in fresh compost and start again. The amaryllis is toxic, so keep it away from children and pets.
