  • Pure white, large trumpet flowers
  • Bright green throat
  • Broad, slightly wavy petals
  • Flowers indoors in December and January
  • About 45–55 cm tall, 5–6 flowers per stalk

'Mont Blanc' lives up to its name: its large flowers are snow white and glow out of a green throat. The broad, slightly wavy petals look clear and elegant. Three bulbs make an elegant group that suits any interior style.

About this variety

White is the most versatile amaryllis colour, and 'Mont Blanc' shows it in its clearest form. The flowers are large, the petals broad and slightly wavy at the edge. A fresh green shimmers in the throat and gives the white depth. Five to six flowers open one after another on each stalk, so the plant stays beautiful for weeks.

At about 45–55 cm tall, it is ideal for windowsill and table. Three bulbs in a row make a calm, elegant winter decoration. With fir sprigs and red berries it looks Christmassy; with birch twigs and moss, more Scandinavian and simple. It is also a lovely partner next to a red variety such as 'Red Lion'.

In the vase, 'Mont Blanc' lasts a long time and suits bouquets of every kind. It has no scent, and pollinators play no part indoors. About eight to twelve weeks pass from planting to flowering. So plant early in October if you want it in flower for Christmas.

Planting

Plant the bulbs between October and January, each in a pot barely larger than the bulb. The top half to top third of the bulb stays exposed. Choose a bright, sunny windowsill at room temperature. Water more only once the bud appears.

Care

Keep the soil slightly moist during flowering and avoid waterlogging. After flowering, leave the leaves, and water and feed so the bulb can gather new strength. From August give no more water and let the bulb rest. All parts of the plant are toxic, keep away from children and pets.
