  • Narrow, star-like petals in Cybister style
  • Play of pink and white
  • Flowers from December to February
  • About 45–55 cm tall
  • Suitable for unusual bouquets

'Rose Cybister' is one of the amaryllis with narrow, spidery petals reminiscent of exotic orchids. The flowers are marked in pink and white and look light and elegant. From December to February, it brings an unusual shape to the windowsill.

About this variety

Cybister amaryllis differ clearly from the familiar large trumpet forms. Their petals are narrow and slightly twisted, giving each flower an airy, almost spidery shape. In 'Rose Cybister' they combine with a play of pink and white. Several flowers sit loosely on a slender stem.

At 45–55 cm tall, the variety suits a windowsill or side table. Because the flowers are delicate, they show best against a calm background such as a pale wall. A simple clay or ceramic pot and a little moss are all the framing it needs. With orchids or ferns, it makes an exotic ensemble.

As a cut flower, 'Rose Cybister' brings a surprising shape to bouquets and arrangements. In the pot, flowering lasts several weeks if the spot is bright but not too warm. With the right care over the summer, the bulb flowers again.

Planting

Pot the bulb between October and January in a pot only slightly larger than the bulb itself. Set it so that a third to half of the bulb shows above the soil. Water once, then place the pot somewhere bright and warm at 20–22 °C. Only once the flower stem is visibly growing should you water regularly but sparingly. The first flowers open after about six to eight weeks.

Care

After flowering, remove the stem and keep caring for the plant as a foliage plant. Water and feed regularly until the end of July so the bulb builds up strength for the next flowering. The rest period begins in August: no more water, and the leaves may die back. After around eight weeks, repot the bulb in fresh compost and start again. Amaryllis is poisonous, so keep it away from children and pets.
