  • Tall decorative dahlia of around 140–160 cm
  • Large, double flowers in warm orange
  • Sturdy, strong stems
  • Variety with Dutch roots
  • Centrepiece for cut-flower arrangements

'Noordwijks Glorie', also known as 'Glorie van Noordwijk', is a tall decorative dahlia with Dutch roots. Its large, double flowers glow in warm orange and sit on sturdy stems. At around 140–160 cm tall it is an eye-catcher in the border and a centrepiece in a bouquet.

About this variety

'Noordwijks Glorie' bears the name of the Dutch coastal town of Noordwijk. The double flowers are large and evenly built, and their orange looks warm and rich. On strong stems they stand high above the foliage and can be seen from afar.

At around 140–160 cm tall the variety belongs at the back of a sunny border or against a fence. There it forms a warm backdrop for lower perennials such as coneflowers, yarrow and blue sage. Ornamental grasses such as miscanthus also suit its size. Because of its height it is only partly suitable for pots. A sheltered spot is an advantage.

In the vase 'Noordwijks Glorie' is a centrepiece for large arrangements. The long, sturdy stems even allow tall vessels. Cut regularly so that the plant forms new buds. Together with grasses, rose hips or blue delphinium it makes bold summer bouquets that shine from afar. Bees and bumblebees visit the flowers as well. A spot at the back of the border is ideal.

Planting

Plant the tubers after the Ice Saints (mid-May), about 10–15 cm deep. Space them 40–60 cm apart. From March you can start the tubers indoors. A spot in full sun with moist, free-draining soil is ideal. Because of the height, put in a strong stake straight away.

Care

Water evenly and generously, but without waterlogging. Feed regularly from June. Tie the tall stems to the stake several times. Remove faded flowers. After the first frost, lift the tubers and overwinter them frost-free.
