  • Centre in peach-yellow, orange and white
  • Flowers of about 7.5 cm
  • Flowers in April, 35–45 cm tall
  • Thrives in sandy and loamy soils

'Golden Pearl' is a modern double daffodil. Its white petals frame a double centre in warm peach-yellow and white. In April it brings cheerful, elegant flowers to beds, containers and bouquets.

About this variety

In 'Golden Pearl' the corona is not trumpet-shaped but transformed into a lush double centre. Warm peach-yellow, orange and white mingle within it. The pure white outer petals form a calm frame. Each flower measures around 7.5 cm. The variety is considered a modern novelty among double daffodils.

At 35–45 cm tall, it suits the middle of beds, containers and the cutting garden. It grows in sandy as well as loamy soils and tolerates both sun and partial shade. It combines beautifully with apricot tulips, blue grape hyacinths or white hyacinths.

In the vase, 'Golden Pearl' looks elegant and lasts well. The bulbs return every year and naturalise in suitable spots. Voles and deer avoid daffodils, as all parts are poisonous. This makes the variety a good choice for gardens with vole problems. Double daffodils are somewhat heavier, so a sheltered spot protects the flowers from rain and wind.

Planting

Plant the bulbs in autumn, from September to November, in groups 10–15 cm deep. A spacing of 10–15 cm is enough. Point the tip upwards and firm the soil well. Choose a spot in sun or partial shade with free-draining soil.

Care

Pinch off faded flowers and let the green foliage die back before removing it. In pots, water regularly during growth and flowering. Divide groups that have become dense every few years. Remember that daffodils are poisonous and that their sap harms other flowers in the vase; stand them in water on their own for a few hours first.
