'Melrose' is a floribunda rose with loosely double, pink flowers in generous clusters. It is fragrant and repeats from June to October. At about 90–110 cm tall, it brings colour to the bed throughout the season.

About this variety

Floribunda roses are known for their wealth of flowers, and 'Melrose' is no exception. Its pink flowers do not stand singly but in large clusters, so even one plant shows plenty of colour. The flowers are loosely double and fragrant. As soon as one flush is over, new buds form, from June into October.

At about 90–110 cm tall and around 50 cm wide, 'Melrose' stays slender and upright. It is well suited to groups in a bed, where four plants per square metre form a continuous area. Silvery foliage such as lavender or cotton lavender goes well with it, as do blue bellflowers or sage. It does only moderately well in a large container and is better off in garden soil.

The clusters can be cut as whole stems and make a ready-made small posy in the vase. The more often you cut or remove faded flowers, the more reliably it repeats. So 'Melrose' accompanies you with fresh pink from early summer into autumn.

Planting

The best planting time for bare-root roses is from October to April in frost-free ground. Soak the roots for a few hours before planting. The graft union belongs about 5 cm below the soil, and the spacing is 35–50 cm. Choose a sunny spot with moist, free-draining soil.

Care

Keep the soil evenly moist, without waterlogging. Feed in spring and once more after the first flush. In spring, cut the shoots back by about half and remove weak wood. Cut off faded clusters so that new ones follow. The rose is hardy in Switzerland.
