  • Pure white flowers in dense spikes
  • Lime-green buds
  • Distinctive tuft at the tip
  • Very long flowering in March and April
  • Delicately scented, 10–20 cm tall

'Siberian Tiger' is considered one of the most elegant white grape hyacinths. Its spikes are pure white, the buds lime green, and a distinctive tuft sits on top. It flowers for a very long time, in March and April, and is delicately scented.

About this variety

White, green and a small tuft: 'Siberian Tiger' has a clear, elegant appearance. The bells open pure white from lime-green buds, and a striking tuft forms at the tip of the spike. The variety is relatively new and flowers for an exceptionally long time. The spikes look like small, carefully crafted sculptures.

At about 10–20 cm tall, it suits paths, white gardens and small terracotta pots on a table or windowsill, in groups of twelve or more bulbs. Next to blue grape hyacinths, spring starflowers or delicate tulips it creates a fresh picture. Beneath trees and shrubs it brings light into dark corners.

The flowers are delicately scented and visited by bees. It is particularly lovely in small vases, as the white stays clean and clear. The bulbs multiply over the years. Voles and deer generally leave grape hyacinths alone. With 100 bulbs you can plant long path edges or several pots.

Planting

September to November is the best time to plant the bulbs. Plant them 5–8 cm deep, tip upwards and about 5–8 cm apart. In pots they can be planted even closer together. Choose a spot with free-draining soil; in heavy soil a little sand helps.

Care

Leave the foliage after flowering until it has yellowed, as this is how the bulbs build up strength for the next year. In a lawn, mow only after that. Otherwise grape hyacinths need hardly any care. If the clumps become too dense, divide them in summer after a few years.
