  • 12 bulbs in mixed colours
  • Classic single hyacinths with dense spikes
  • Sweet fragrance in April
  • About 25–35 cm tall, ideal for pots and bed edges
  • Good cut flower for small spring bouquets

This mix brings various hyacinth colours together in one pack. In April the dense flower spikes open and release their typical sweet fragrance. Ideal if you want colour and fragrance in beds and pots without spending a long time choosing.

About this variety

Hyacinths are among the first bulbs to show real colour in spring. This mix contains several shades, so each group looks a little different. The star-shaped individual flowers sit densely on a sturdy spike and form a compact flower head.

At about 25–35 cm tall, the hyacinths suit the front of beds and borders. Plant them in groups of five to seven bulbs for the best effect of the colour mix. They look lovely among grape hyacinths, early tulips and daffodils. In pots, window boxes or as a layer in a bulb lasagne, they bring spring right to your door.

The fragrance is what makes hyacinths unmistakable. A few stems are enough to fill a room, which is why they suit the vase so well. Plant the mix where you often pass by, such as at the entrance or beside the terrace. In the garden they flower for several years; over time the spikes become looser and more natural.

Planting

Plant the bulbs from September to November, or even in December if the ground is open, 10–15 cm deep and 12–15 cm apart. Set each bulb pointed end up. A sunny to partially shaded spot with free-draining soil is ideal, as waterlogging makes the bulbs rot. Wear gloves when planting, as the bulb skins can irritate the skin.

Care

Cut off withered flower spikes, but leave the foliage until it yellows: the bulb gathers strength in it for the next year. Keep the soil slightly moist while the plants are shooting and flowering. Wear gloves for aftercare too, as hyacinths can cause skin irritation. After a few years the spikes become looser, and it is then worth refreshing the planting.
