  • Double flowers in warm pink
  • Full, round flower spikes
  • About 20–30 cm tall
  • Flowers in March and April
  • Sweet, medium-strength fragrance

'Spring Beauty' is a double hyacinth in warm pink. Its flower spikes are particularly full and round, with extra petals in the individual flowers. A sweet fragrance makes it an ideal pot plant for the terrace and windowsill.

About this variety

In 'Spring Beauty' the individual flowers are filled with extra petals. This makes the spike look rounder and more lush than in single hyacinths. The pink is warm and strong; as flowering progresses it becomes softer, and the edges can take on a slight silvery shimmer. So each plant shows a subtle play of colour.

At about 20–30 cm tall, it belongs at the front of beds, along paths and in pots and bowls. Combine it with white daffodils, blue grape hyacinths or pale yellow primroses. In a bulb lasagne pot it fits in the middle layer above early tulips. The pink also looks very refined with silvery foliage such as that of lamb's ears.

The sweet fragrance can be noticed from some distance. Place a pot near the entrance or on the garden table to enjoy it fully. The stems last well in a vase. In the garden the variety also flowers in the following years, then usually a little more loosely and naturally.

Planting

Plant the bulbs in autumn, from September to November, 10–15 cm deep with the pointed end up. Leave 12–15 cm between them and choose a sunny to partially shaded spot with free-draining soil. In a pot, good potting compost with a drainage layer is all you need. Wear gloves, as the bulbs can cause skin irritation.

Care

Remove the withered flower spikes, but leave the foliage until it turns yellow. In pots, water moderately and avoid standing water in the saucer. After a few years you can dig up dense groups in summer and replant them elsewhere. Hyacinths can irritate the skin; gloves protect you.
