  • 5–10 small flowers per stem
  • Bright yellow with an orange-yellow cup
  • Scented, very long flowering
  • Dwarf, about 15–25 cm tall
  • Narrow foliage that dies back quickly

'Baby Boomer' is a miniature Jonquilla that flowers for a very long time. Five to ten small, bright yellow flowers with a pleasant scent open on each stem. At about 15–25 cm tall it is made for pots, border edges and rock gardens.

About this variety

Each stem of 'Baby Boomer' is a little bouquet. Five to ten light yellow flowers open one after another, so flowering lasts for weeks. The cups are slightly darker, almost orange-yellow. The foliage is narrow and grass-like and disappears quickly after flowering. The variety was bred in the USA in 2008.

At about 15–25 cm tall it belongs at the front of the border, in rock gardens and above all in pots on the balcony and terrace. Because its foliage dies back quickly, it is easy to plant between perennials that come into growth later. Lovely partners are grape hyacinths, violas or squills.

A few stems are enough for a small vase, and the scent is surprisingly strong. In the garden it naturalises and returns in greater numbers every year. Voles and deer usually leave daffodils alone. It plays no great role as bee food, but it is very easy to care for.

Planting

Plant the bulbs from September to November, about 10 cm deep and 5–10 cm apart. Tip upwards. A sunny to partly shaded spot with free-draining soil is ideal. In pots, set the bulbs close together for a full look.

Care

After flowering, leave the foliage until it is yellow. With this variety that happens quickly. Water pots regularly while in growth, hardly at all in summer. Divide dense clumps after a few years. All parts of daffodils are poisonous. Wear gloves when planting, as the sap can irritate the skin.
