  • Jonquilla narcissus in yellow
  • Flowers in April
  • Height about 45–55 cm
  • 100 bulbs for meadows and large beds
  • Hardy and naturalises well

'More and More' is a yellow Jonquilla narcissus that lives up to its name: it naturalises readily and forms ever larger groups over the years. The pack of 100 bulbs is enough for a visible yellow drift in April, in a bed, under trees or in a meadow.

About this variety

Jonquilla narcissi have narrow, rush-like foliage and usually several smaller flowers per stem. 'More and More' brings this graceful form in a warm yellow. The plants look light and natural, quite different from the heavy trumpet daffodils. The flowers open in April, when the garden is looking for colour again after winter, and the slender foliage is barely noticeable after flowering.

At around 45–55 cm tall, it stands well in the middle of a bed, in borders and along woodland edges. The large number of bulbs invites you to plant them in drifts through a meadow or under fruit trees. Squills, glory-of-the-snow or grape hyacinths go well with it, and later also early tulips. In large containers it creates a dense spring bouquet.

The stems are suitable for the vase. Daffodils are mostly avoided by voles and deer, so the plantings last for years. In a spot that is not dug over after flowering, 'More and More' multiplies reliably. Over the years a single planting grows into a yellow carpet that becomes a little denser every spring.

Planting

Plant the bulbs from September to November with the tip pointing upwards, 10–15 cm deep and 10–15 cm apart. Sunny to partially shaded spots with free-draining, moist soil are ideal. The bulbs cope well with loam, sand and chalk. In a meadow, make individual holes with a bulb planter.

Care

Leave the foliage after flowering until it turns yellow; it feeds the bulb for next year. In a meadow, only mow after that. After a few years, dense clumps can be divided. Daffodils are poisonous; stand cut stems in water on their own first so that their sap does not harm other flowers.
