'Mando' is a modern large-cupped daffodil with large white flowers and a bright orange cup. The flowers grow 9 to 10 cm across, are lightly scented and last up to three weeks in the garden. With 100 bulbs you create a bold, long-lasting spring drift.

About this variety

'Mando' is a newer cultivar that impresses with strong contrast. The petals are white and broad, and at the centre glows a cup in bright orange. At 9 to 10 cm across, the flowers are large and highly visible. A particular advantage is its long flowering period: in the garden it stays attractive for up to three weeks.

At around 35–45 cm tall, it suits beds, borders, meadows and large containers. With 100 bulbs you can plant large groups or whole drifts along paths. Good partners are blue grape hyacinths, squills and orange tulips that pick up the colour of the cup. In front of dark foliage, the white looks especially lovely.

In the vase, 'Mando' lasts a very long time and is lightly scented. The bulbs return every year and multiply slowly. Voles and deer usually leave daffodils alone. It is of little importance to bees, but it is robust and easy to care for.

Planting

Plant the bulbs from September to November, 10–15 cm deep and 10–15 cm apart, with the tip pointing upwards. A sunny to partially shaded spot with free-draining soil is ideal. For large areas a bulb planter makes the work easier.

Care

Leave the foliage after flowering until it turns yellow. Pinch off faded flowers. In a lawn, only mow once the leaves have died back. Divide dense clumps after a few years. Once cut, daffodils release a slime into the water that harms other flowers: stand them on their own for a few hours before mixing them.
