A single tulip variety usually flowers for two to three weeks. This mix stretches the tulip season in your garden over several weeks: it combines early, mid-season and late varieties from our range that open one after another from late March into May, depending on your location. We put each pack together by hand from varieties we normally sell individually. Quantities are limited; you can still plant as long as the ground is not frozen.

About this variety

Planting a single tulip variety gives you a lovely but short flowering window. This mix brings together varieties from different flowering groups: the early ones open from late March depending on your location, the mid-season ones follow in April and the late ones flower into May. That way the border keeps producing new flowers for several weeks.

We put the packs together by hand from tulips you would normally find in our shop as individual varieties. Each mix is therefore a little different, with a range of colours and flower shapes. The bulbs are not labelled by variety; the result is a colourful, natural-looking display. Because we only have a few bulbs left of each variety, this mix is available in small numbers only.

The tulips look best in loose groups of 10 to 15 bulbs between perennials or in a large container. The taller varieties are good for cutting: cut them when the buds show colour. Bulbs planted in November or early December will also flower next spring, provided the ground is not frozen at planting time.

Planting

Plant the bulbs from October to December; in Switzerland October to November is ideal, when the soil has cooled. Set them 10–15 cm deep, tip upwards, 10–12 cm apart, ideally in groups of 10 or more. A sunny spot with free-draining soil without waterlogging is ideal. In heavy soil some sand or grit in the planting hole helps. In pots the bulbs can stand more densely.

Care

After the shoots appear, water only during dry spells. Cut off wilted flowers before seed forms and wait until the foliage is yellow before removing it. The bulbs can stay in the soil; for an even display, replant or lift them after the foliage dies back and store them dry over the summer. A planting basket keeps voles away. In pots, protect from constant wet in winter.
