'Elegance Bianco Striato' shows double flowers in white with pink stripes and edges. The variety comes from the Italian Elegance range, known for large flowers and strong stems. It flowers in June and July and is a refined cut flower.

About this variety

White and pink meet on every flower of this variety. The many petals are pale and carry delicate pink markings. This makes the flower look fresh and romantic at the same time. The Elegance series comes from Italy and is known for large flowers, robust foliage and strong stems.

At around 35–45 cm tall, 'Elegance Bianco Striato' suits the front of a bed and pots. It tolerates sun and partial shade. Plant the 12 tubers in a group so the colour shows well. Lovely companions are sweet williams, blue cornflowers or baby's breath, which emphasise the delicate pattern.

In the vase the striped flowers are eye-catching. On their own in a small glass they look refined; in mixed arrangements they add lightness. Cut the stems when the buds are opening. Pollinators find little in the double flowers. Flowering is in June and July.

Planting

Soak the tubers in water for 3–4 hours. Plant them from March to May, claws pointing downwards, 5 cm deep and 10 cm apart. A sunny to partially shaded spot with loose, loamy-sandy soil suits them well. If there is a late frost, protect the shoots with fleece.

Care

Water moderately but regularly; waterlogging makes the tubers rot. Feed lightly once or twice during flowering. Cut off faded flowers. The tubers are not hardy: lift them once the foliage has died back, dry them and store them frost-free.
