  • Double flowers in violet
  • From the Italian Elegance series
  • Flowers in June and July
  • Around 35–45 cm tall, 20 cm wide
  • For sun and partial shade, pots and beds

'Elegance Milka' brings soft violet to beds and pots. The double flowers are densely packed with petals and stand on strong stems. This ranunculus from the Italian Elegance range flowers in June and July and is a lovely cut flower.

About this variety

Violet looks calm and elegant, and in 'Elegance Milka' it appears in full, round flowers. Many thin petals lie closely on top of each other, much like a small rose. The Elegance series from Italy stands for large flowers, robust foliage and strong stems that also hold up well in arrangements.

In the garden the variety stays compact at around 35–45 cm tall. It is happy in sunny and partially shaded spots. Plant the 12 tubers in a group at the front of a bed or in a wide pot. Yellow ranunculus, white marguerites or lady's mantle are lovely partners.

In the vase, the violet goes with white, pink and silver-grey. Cut the flowers when the buds are opening, and they will last especially long. The more you cut, the more small posies you can make in June and July. The double flowers play no role for pollinators. A single flower in a slim glass also shows up well. On the dining table or by the window, it brings a calm, refined colour into the house that suits many interiors.

Planting

Let the tubers soak in water for 3–4 hours before planting. Plant them from March to May, claws pointing downwards, 5 cm deep and 10 cm apart. A sunny to partially shaded spot with loose, loamy-sandy soil is suitable. If there is a late frost, lay fleece over the shoots.

Care

Water regularly and avoid waterlogging. In pots, a liquid fertiliser every two weeks helps. Cut off faded flowers. Once the foliage has died back, lift the tubers, let them dry and overwinter them frost-free, as they are not hardy.
