  • 10–15 flowers per stem, up to 20 in good conditions
  • Creamy white petals with a hint of lemon
  • Canary-yellow, bowl-shaped cup
  • Intense, honey-like scent
  • Historic Tazetta, flowers in March and April

'Grand Primo Citronière' is a historic Tazetta narcissus with ten to fifteen small flowers on each stem. The petals are creamy white with a hint of lemon, and the bowl-shaped cups are canary yellow. Its intense honey scent makes it one of the loveliest scented daffodils for pots and the vase.

About this variety

Each stem of 'Grand Primo Citronière' is a small bouquet. Ten to fifteen flowers stand close together, and in a good spot even up to twenty. The petals are creamy white with a slight lemony sheen, and the small cups glow canary yellow. The scent recalls honey and is very intense.

At around 35–45 cm tall, it suits beds in warm, sheltered spots and above all pots. Place the pots by the seating area or next to the front door, where the scent can be enjoyed. Good partners are blue grape hyacinths, white tulips and violas. It can also be forced indoors.

In the vase it spreads its honey scent throughout the room. As a Tazetta it likes warmth and is not made for exposed locations: it flowers most reliably against a sunny house wall or in a pot overwintered frost-free. Voles and deer usually leave daffodils alone. It is of little interest to bees.

Planting

Plant the bulbs from September to November, 10–15 cm deep and 10–15 cm apart, with the tip pointing upwards. Choose a sunny, warm and sheltered spot with free-draining soil. In colder areas, plant them in pots.

Care

Leave the foliage after flowering until it turns yellow. Cut off faded flower clusters. In winter keep pots cool but frost-free. In the garden, protect the planting spot with a thick layer of leaves. For mixed bouquets, stand the daffodils in water on their own for half a day first, as their sap makes other cut flowers wilt.
