  • Fully double flowers in camellia form
  • Colourful mix
  • Flowers from June to October
  • About 35–45 cm tall, upright
  • 10 tubers for window boxes, containers and beds

The tuberous begonia 'Camellia Mixed' bears large, fully double flowers reminiscent of camellias. Various colours come together in this mix. From June to October the plants flower tirelessly in window boxes, large containers and partially shaded beds.

About this variety

Camellia-flowered begonias have particularly regular, fully double flowers. The petals lie in many rows on top of one another and form a round, flat shape similar to a camellia. The mix brings several colours together, so even a single window box looks colourful. The foliage is strong, glossy green and lopsidedly heart-shaped.

At about 35–45 cm tall, the plants grow upright and compact. They suit window boxes, large containers and the edge of partially shaded beds, also in front of shrubs. Calm companions such as hostas, ferns or green grasses let the variety of colours stand out. On a terrace with morning sun they flower particularly profusely. With a mix, it is worth arranging the pots by colour once they flower if you want a calmer picture.

The flowering season runs from June to October. The flowers are not intended for the vase, but single flowers floating in a shallow bowl look very decorative. With ten tubers you can plant several window boxes or a small bed. If overwintered well, the tubers become stronger every year.

Planting

Start the tubers indoors from March: hollow side up, 2–3 cm deep, so just covered with soil, in loose potting compost. Keep them light and warm, but not in full sun. The young plants may only go outdoors after the Ice Saints (mid-May). In the bed, plant 25–30 cm apart in humus-rich, free-draining soil.

Care

Water evenly, without leaving water standing in the saucer, and give a weak feed every two weeks. Remove faded flowers, as this encourages new buds. In autumn, before the first frost, bring the pots indoors or dig up the tubers. Let the foliage dry off and overwinter the tubers dry and frost-free at 5–10 °C.
