This tuberous begonia opens large, double flowers in a friendly pink. It looks romantic and goes with many other balcony plants. It flowers reliably in partially shaded spots from June to October.

About this variety

Pink double tuberous begonias are among the most popular balcony flowers. This variety bears full, rose-like flowers on strong stems. The shade is clear and friendly, and the leaves are large, glossy and toothed at the edge. The plant stays compact and tidy all summer.

At about 45–55 cm tall, it suits window boxes, pots and the edges of beds in partial shade. White and silver are ideal companions, for example white bacopa or liquorice plant. If you prefer something bolder, combine it with dark red or purple partners. It also looks good in front of a light-coloured house wall. In a simple wooden box the pink looks natural and rustic; in zinc or stone containers it looks more modern.

The flowers appear from June to October. They are not suitable for the vase, but single flowers look lovely in a bowl of water. Ten tubers are enough for several window boxes. Overwintered in autumn, they will sprout again the following year.

Planting

From March, place the tubers in pots with the hollow side up and cover them lightly with soil. Stand them at a bright window at room temperature and water sparingly at first. As soon as there is no longer any risk of night frost, after the Ice Saints (mid-May), the plants can go outside. In the bed, keep a spacing of 25–30 cm.

Care

It is best to water in the morning and directly onto the soil, not over the leaves and flowers. Feed regularly from June to August. Faded flowers are easy to pinch out. When the first cold nights arrive in October, bring the plants indoors, let the foliage die back and store the tubers cool, dry and frost-free.
